Poetry/Spoken Word Competition 2022

Calling all Pasefika Young Creatives aged 16 - 21! Are you interested in expressing your voice, opinions and ideas through a creative outlet?

The Guerrilla Collection is excited to announce that entries for our Poetry/Spoken Word Competition are open!

The overarching theme of the competition is 'identity'.

Identity can reflect or intersect with many things: culture, whānau, gender, and religion to name a few. But what makes us unique and informs our own personal identity?

How to Enter

1. Write or record a 1 - 2 minute poem or spoken word around the theme 'identity'.

2. Email your submission to guerrilla@theguerrillacollection.nz with the subject name "Poetry/Spoken Word Competition", followed by your name. Please include the following information with your entry:

- Full Name

- Date of Birth

- School and year level or occupation

- Contact phone number

- Postal address


The winning submissions will be awarded with a NZ$500 Prezzy card, a Guerrilla Collection goodie bag, and the opportunity to work with a mentor to develop their work. The winning submissions will also be given to the dancers of Black Grace to develop into a dance film and published on this website and The Guerrilla Collection Instagram - @theguerrillacollection

Submission Guidelines

- Applicants must be aged 16 - 21

- Poems must be original and unpublished

- Recorded spoken word entries must be 1 - 2 minutes long and submitted with a typed copy

- All entries must be received by midnight 15th June 2022. Entries received after this date can not be accepted
