Under the ‘Au

Under the ‘Au imagines a future where those who undertake the ‘tatau’, (or ‘mālōfie’) process, a sacred age-old traditional Sāmoan hand tapped tattoo’ing ritual performed by a tufuga (tattooist), can customise their part in the process by utilising technology, manufacturing, transportation and natural resourcing in order to maximise their experience’s physical and spiritual connection to their ancestral lands in an increasingly globalised world.

Anonymouz (Faiumu Matthew Salapu)

South Auckland born and raised, of Sāmoan descent, Sound & Music Producer Anonymouz’s work spans traditional music composition and production through to experimental avant garde sound art.

He was Music Director for Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra's international UNESCO award winning “APO Remix” music programme. In 2014, he was appointed by Auckland Council to oversee the production of permanent soundscapes for the new Glen Innes Music and Arts centre facility "Te Oro”. He also attended the 2016 Festival of Pacific Arts in Guåhån (Guam) as part of the Aotearoa delegation, premiering a new soundscape work at the Guam Museum exclusively created from audio samples recorded around the island.

In addition to productions for many NZ creative institutions and organisations, he has also produced tracks for many NZ Urban music artists. Alongside radio play-listed productions, his work can also be heard every four minutes on Pacific radio in the imaging that he has created for Pacific Media Network’s NIU FM and Radio 531 PI.
